This day is celebrated on 17th of March. It marks the death of St. Patrick. It is believed that this man came to earth only to convert pagans to Christianity. At a very small age of fourteen he was kidnapped and was taken to Ireland where all were pagans. He was made slave there. During this slavery his faith extremely increased in god and he wrote “the love of god and fear grew in me more and more, as did faith, and my soul was raised, so that, in a single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in night, nearly the same†“I prayed in the woods and on the mountains, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain.â€
After six years of his slavery he somehow managed to escape from that place and reached back to his country. When he grew up he became lord and again came to Ireland and preached the gospel to pagans also set up many monasteries in his way. He converted almost all pagans. And it is said that no snakes was left in Ireland as snake is taken as the symbol of pagan. He was a personality liked by all. Spending 30 years in Ireland St. Patrick died in 461A.D. since that time the day of his death is celebrated as the St. Patrick’s Day. He took the people of Ireland from darkness to light and makes them aware of the teachings of god. That was the main reason why they celebrate this day.
He used shamrock (a three leaf clover) for the trinity i.e. father, son and the holy spirit.
