Almost all of us lie when we are in one or the other situation. Behavior of lying starts from the age of four to five years when we become aware of that we can use the power of language to escape or to influence a particular situation and it goes on with us throughout our life. Lying is a very good method to influence, control or divert the feelings, thoughts, behavior and reaction of a person.
There are many reasons why people lie:-
• Generally people lie because they do not want to get punished for their mistakes and they try to find one or the other logical reasons in support of their mistake.
• Lying is not just to avoid punishment but also to get approval by others. If they will say the truth they may not be accepted because the truth sometimes would not match to the other person’s image and impression.
• Many couples start lying because they want to avoid conflicts. Not only couples it can happen in any relationship like parent-child, brother-sister etc. the best way to avoid conflict is to understand the other one as he can be right at his own place.
• To get power on other person or to show one’s own supremacy is the other reason for lying. In this age of competition everyone wants to show himself the best so he sometimes starts speaking lie to match with the ideal image that is in the other person’s mind. And it also gives you the power to take decisions for yourself and others.
One is the pathological liars. There are many reasons why they lie it can be immaturity, to show their high status or to get sympathy and attention from others. In their fake story they have nearly 20% of white matter. That is why sometimes they seem so natural and believable.
